Power to voters
Sen. Ted Cruz was quoted in the March 16 Spokesman-Review saying unlimited political cash would give “rank and file” conservative activists greater sway in picking their representatives. He said that donors should have the same rights to write giant checks as voters who put campaign signs in their front yards.
Apparently, the distinguished gentleman from Texas equates voters of the upper financial crust with Joe Smith, who can only show his support with a campaign sign. Wake up, America. Money does buy politics and, although the campaign sign might give Cruz that warm and fuzzy feeling, only the money is going to get his attention.
It will be the same with his cronies. I will give what I can to my candidates, but will ultimately be left like Joe Smith, holding a campaign sign. Except mine will most likely say Hillary (Clinton). The power should be with the voters, not the currency that flows ever more freely.
