Out on a limb

Wilma Vail knows the score (“Beware quaking aspens” – April 4)

I was kicking it with some Norway maples the other day, talking about Vikings and lutefisk, and there they were: a gang of quaking aspens. Except they had us quaking. We knew what these punks could do. The maples vamoosed.

It was me and that brutal gang of aspens. I told them I knew they’d branched out while becoming rooted in Spokane. I said if you leave now, you won’t find out the hard way that my bark is not worse than my bite. I stared them down. Don’t make me axe you again.

They split. I don’t know where. Maybe up north. I saw them go. I expect they’ll be back one day. Spring something on us. We will take the fall. That’s how it is with quaking aspens. Most dangerous tree on Earth. Get a clue. Don’t be a sap.
