Homes not disposable

I was surprised to read (April 30) Mike Reno’s negative view of manufactured homes. If his mother’s was built in 1999, it could not have been legally constructed in the United States. National and state codes required much the same as stick houses, and could not have been permitted/licensed with the problems he described. (In 1969, when they were intended to be truly mobile, they were not constructed as permanent housing.)

On the other hand, those of us who live in a 55-plus manufactured home community enjoy a variety of activities, a supportive community and security that would be hard to duplicate in any neighborhood.

Neither we nor our houses are really disposable.
