Then and Now: Burgan’s Furniture

1950: New Market Opens. Burgan's opened its 24th market recently on the northeast corner of Division and Heroy. Photo Archives/The Spokesman-Review (Spokesman-Review Photo Archives)

The most recent Then and Now column in The Spokesman-Review (May 11) featured the Burgan’s Furniture building on Division St. at Boone Ave.  But the company was better known for dry goods and groceries in its earlier years. It all began with an energetic entrepreneur named Edwin Burgan, who opened and ran many stores before getting a foothold in the Spokane market in 1915.  Burgan had been in business for more than 75 years when he died at age 99 in 1948. See the most recent column.
