Freedom Tree Carving Placed At McEuen
A beautiful new carving made from wood salvaged from the original Freedom Tree at McEuen Park was situated next to the new Freedom Tree this week at the west end of the park. The original Freedom Tree was planted in an effort to stop development of Tubbs Hill and was rededicated in 1972 for Fred McMurray of Coeur d’Alene, a prisoner of war. The carving, which includes a flag, a pair of eagles and the words “Freedom” and “Return with Honor,” was completed by local artist Jeff May in about two months/Coeur d’Alene Today.
