Paid leave objections shallow

The Spokane City Council is sparring with the idea of passing a law that would require certain employers to provide paid leave. Many employers, and even some council members, do not like the notion.

These objections are surprising in their shallowness of thought when they assert that the city has no authority to pass such a law. On the contrary, government has a duty to ensure justice for all citizens.

In our system of wage slavery under capitalism, injustices abound. This paid leave proposal is a minor but worthy step toward remedy. Of course, the architects of the law should strive for simplicity and as light a burden as possible on the employers.
