McMorris Rodgers on VA cuts?
On April 22, The Spokesman-Review carried a story entitled “VA chief calls budget plan ‘inadequate’.” The Republican House subcommittee plans to cut the budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs by more than $1.4 billion next year. According to VA Secretary Robert McDonald, this cut will “cause veterans to suffer” and is “inadequate” to meet the growing needs of veterans.
The GOP subcommittee’s plan would cut veterans’ medical care by $690 million, the equivalent of 70,000 fewer veterans receiving VA medical care than under President Obama’s budget. The GOP plan would also eliminate funding for a planned rehabilitation therapy building in St. Louis, as well as a planned cemetery expansions in four states.
Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has always said she’s a champion of veterans and veteran medical care, so what is her position on this Republican plan to cut the VA budget by $1.4 billion?
