VFW Post 51 snubbed

In reading the May 5 article on Occupy Spokane, the reporter indicated that they were at the Robert Monaghan Memorial. The actual name is the Ensign John R. Monaghan Memorial.

This memorial was dedicated a number of years back. At that time, the Ensign John R. Monaghan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 51 was founded. In fact, last month marked the 100th anniversary of the post. This fact went unnoticed by The Spokesman-Review, even though a number of press releases were sent to the newspaper.

VFW Post 51 was founded on April 13, 1915, and is the oldest post west of Denver Post 1, and one of 32 posts over 100 years old. This was quite a notable accomplishment and should have been recognized by the local media.
