Salmon numbers in perspective

Recent news articles tout the bounty of salmon coming up the Snake and Clearwater rivers through Lower Granite Dam this year, with quotes from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bonneville Power Administration engineers bragging about efforts to improve runs and smolt survival. They report “record numbers” and “healthy increases,” and “hundreds of fish” being caught.

Please stop the backslapping unless and until we can be counting salmon in the millions like the Nez Perce did before the Snake River dams decimated the runs.
