Most officers aren’t biased

On May 8 you published a letter from Caylin Novell. She implies that she is an expert in bias because she is a member of a social hate class at Gonzaga.

I have had law enforcement training and experience. Novell should take a shoot/don’t shoot class. Yes, mistakes are sometimes made, which is extremely unfortunate, and can be a felony on the officer’s part that will ruin a career and person for life. However, the vast majority of officers will never use a gun in a whole career.

Most officers are in dangerous situations on a daily basis and their adrenalin can be very high, increasing the possibility of mistakes. Coeur d’Alene Sgt. Greg Moore was killed in a routine stop. His father, Officer Fred Moore, had also been shot at. He returned fire and killed the guy.

The vast majority of police are not biased, and do a good job. Police departments in this country do the best they can to get rid of bad cops.

Women commit violent crimes. Certainly, one should not be making comments about women in general being biased, violent or dangerous. Novell should become aware of media biases and her own.
