Letter: Oppose Book Banners

I see that the illustrious citizens of Idaho are again the laughing stock of the entire nation. Again we have a whacked out religious fundamentalist wanting to control everyone with her sanctimonious, self-righteous, dictatorial agenda. Ms. Finney has tried to enflame this mandatory reading list situation by stating that students would be forced to read objectionable (to her) books (I was present and heard her say that specifically until someone corrected her with the facts). No student is forced to read anything specifically … they are forced to make choices from a mandatory LIST of books. Ms. Finney has every right to regulate what her child/children read but she has no right to dictate what I deem as appropriate for my children. It’s called freedom of choice as opposed to censorship. That is the major problem I have with these Christian fundamentalists; they don’t believe you have the freedom of CHOICE if it conflicts with their way of thinking. As far as I’m concerned, this type of control is no different than what the whacked out Muslims are trying to do/ Jayson Dalseth , of Coeur d’Alene, letter to the Coeur d’Alene Press editor. More here.

Question: Do you agree/disagree with Dalseth’s criticism?
