People can protect programs

I recently saw the results of a survey addressing the future of Social Security benefits. In the survey, 41 percent of the respondents indicated that they “didn’t think Social Security would be around when they reached retirement age.” Apparently, these people think someone out there can simply take the benefit away from them. And that, as individuals, there is no way to control these types of decisions.

Well, that is so wrong. We have 100 percent control over what policies are put in place, including the future of Social Security benefits, and Medicare for that matter. It’s called the power of the vote. We vote people into office who then make policy decisions for us. If we want to protect programs such as Social Security or Medicare into the future, we must vote for those individuals who openly support these policies and programs.

Don’t stand by idly and let others decide your future. Research both political party philosophies and agendas and where political candidates stand on issues important to you. Give those your vote who will represent you.
