Bubba: Gookin has moderated views

Here's an SR photo of Councilman Dan Gookin, taken in 2004, after he switched parties from Libertarian to Republican.

Bubba (RE: Gookin gets 1,131-1,151 undervotes ): It seems to me that Mr Gookin is smarter than Steve Adams by several orders of magnitude. He has adjusted to be less ideologically rigid. Gookin has moderated his views on things;for example, he doesnt have a knee-jerk reaction against utilizing federal grant funding. He also makes courageous votes and is not governed by a hardline ideology, like his support of the anti-discrimination ordinance. So I think Gookin survives if he continues to be a reasoned conservative voice on the council, and not go over the deep end like Adams did. But the level of undervotes does indicate that there is a sizeable chunk of voters that are opposed. So he would be wise to not push the envelope too far, and instead to continue to represent conservative voters, yet the flexible and more sensible kind.

Question: Do you agree/disagree with Bubba that Councilman Gookin isn’t governed by hardline ideology?
