Lantern Festival too exclusive
Not everyone is delighted with the Chinese Lantern Festival. Fencing off parts of Riverfront Park during a beautiful, mild autumn day is an outrage.
Since 1974, Riverfront has been the people’s park. Not this fall. Tried to show our beautiful park to a visiting friend without success. No discount days and evening-only hours limits people. Many seniors will not walk in unfamiliar places in the dark for safety reasons. Also, many people don’t drive after dark.
Prices of tickets keep many Spokanites away. Even poor and homeless would enjoy this event. An act of kindness would be a free day. But this event seems not to be for the average Spokanite.
