Busy on her ‘days off’
Doug Burr’s Nov. 12 letter makes a silly claim that always seems to emerge during an election year by attacking Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers for not working for more than 200 days a year. He forgets that most Americans get 110 days off. They’re called the weekend.
More important, the job of being a member of Congress extends far beyond work in Washington, D.C., and includes all of the in-district work a member does. Our congresswoman has a home here and keeps a full district schedule, meeting with groups like Greater Spokane Incorporated, YWCA, veterans, small business owners and constituents. That’s sure some day off.
Just this past Veterans Day, Cathy attended the dedication of the new Veterans Memorial here in Spokane. She made heartfelt remarks, met with veterans and took the time to reach out. While our two U.S. senators only sent letters to be read. They were probably too busy with their day off.
In the end, it’s not about having days off, it’s what done during that time that really makes the difference. Cathy uses the time she’s not in session to work toward becoming the best advocate for Eastern Washington she can — and that truly shows.
