Are subs being snubbed?

I am prompted to write by reading the Nov. 9 front page article regarding substitute teaching shortages in Spokane. There was an earlier article that made reference to the shortage as well.

In my recent relocation to Spokane after a 30-year teaching career, a friend working in the Spokane Public Schools system encouraged me to apply as a sub, which I did the beginning of this school year. I followed all the required steps and got a computer generated response that my file was complete. Then, total silence.

I wonder if other potential candidates are in the school system’s computer files waiting, like me, for a response of need. Am I the only one surprised by these articles?

Someone else informed me the Mead School District may need subs. I will check them out.
