A crowd, including Santa, enthusiastically helped Gov. Butch Otter and First Lady Lori Otter with the countdown to light Idaho's Capitol Christmas Tree on Monday. The 39-foot blue spruce was donated by Al and Jean Day from Boise's North End — it was 8 feet tall when it was planted in 1997. Afterwards, festivities continued in the Rotunda with music by the 25th Army Band, free books and toothbrushes for children, and 3,000 sugar cookies decorated with the State Seal.
