Palouse needs a new mayor

Incumbent Palouse Mayor Michael Echanove is beholden to his 16-year record, indicating he plans to change nothing if re-elected. However, Palouse faces an affordable housing crisis and depleted city reserves. Opposing viewpoints have been lost on council, and I’m troubled by a complaint filed against Echanove for ignoring a request to investigate allegations of harassment by the police department.

The time has come for a new mayor who will offer a conservative budget policy, who will listen to differing opinions, encourage debate and increase transparency at City Hall. Connie Newman is that new voice for the people of Palouse whose concerns have gone unaddressed.

Only a brave person would make the choice to run, and would only do so because the call to serve is so apparent. Newman can bring a new set of ideas to City Hall, empower those on city council to act and arrive at solutions to our city’s critical needs. One would be hard-pressed to find a more attentive listener, dedicated volunteer or more thoughtful leader.

Vote for a positive change. Vote for transparency in local government. Vote for cooperation between the city and the school. Vote for fiscally conservative spending. Vote for Connie Newman.
