Lake Spokane vs. Long Lake

The Aug. 24 picture of “… boaters enjoying Long Lake in the midst of smoke …” brought, to me, that continuing issue of, “What do we call that big reservoir between Nine Mile Dam and Long Lake Dam?”

A few years ago, that reservoir was officially renamed Lake Spokane to eliminate the confusion with several other “Long Lakes” in Washington.

When will The Spokesman-Review get with it? Locals give a blank look when they hear Lake Spokane vs. Long Lake. If the newspaper would get it right, maybe those blank looks will eventually change to smiles of recognition for this wonderful local outdoor asset.
