Why Davis was jailed

Did you read the one about the Kentucky county clerk refusing to issue marriage licenses to gays? She was sent to jail. She thinks it is because she refuses to violate God’s law, but in fact she was behind bars because she violated the law of the land.

She is free to practice her religious beliefs in private life. She is not free to use her taxpayer-funded civil service job to impose her religious beliefs on others. I suspect she swore an oath to uphold the law when she accepted her job. If she is unwilling to do so, she should resign. Then she could move somewhere like Iran, where the church runs the state and executes those who disagree with their interpretation of God’s law.

But, although she is willing to break the law for her beliefs, she is apparently too much of a hypocrite to give up that high-paying job for them.
