Steve Adams wants 4 more years
On Friday, the Coeur d’Alene Press reported statements made by Councilman Steve Adams at the Reagan Republicans luncheon. Adams, who regularly opposes city actions that use federal money, said in part:
Speaking to the Kootenai County Reagan Republicans Thursday, Adams said his basic political philosophy includes a respect for all life, adherence to the U.S. and Idaho constitutions, and a belief in personal responsibility and “less government.” Adams pointed out that he was the only one on the city council to vote against the anti-discrimination ordinance, which protects lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Adams anticipates urban renewal being among the top issues in the upcoming election, along with property taxes and labor costs. Adams would like to see the city’s urban renewal agency, ignite cda, dissolved and have the city council take on the work. More here.
DFO: I find it scary that some people I respect are considering supporting Adams because he’s a nice and honest guy. But his voting record is another thing altogether. He has opposed road projects (think: Government Way) and purchases (think: police vehicles) as a result of his belief that the city should have nothing to do with accepting federal revenue. And he almost singlehandedly forced a major sewer fee hike on the residents of this community by opposing judicial review as a means to accept federal money to expand the wastewater treatment plant. Adams simply has no business sitting on the City Council — nice guy or not. His stubborn adherence to his ideology may play in Tea Party circles. But it doesn’t play when it is a motivational factor for one of six votes on the council.
