Trinket: Dance dress code all wet

IdahoPanhandler.com provides link to email sent by Coeur d’Alene High administration to parents/students here.

Trinket (RE: CHS to enforce dress code, more ): “Schools can’t make up their mind. On one hand they talk all the time about parents being “involved” in their kids lives, on the other hand they want to make what is a “parental” decision. Who’s level of morality is going to be used? Do the dresses need sleeves (if so that is the Mormon influence), how short? how tight?how see-through? What colors are OK?? Most of these dances are held off school property, so now the school dress police are going to decide what a young adult can wear to the Coeur d’Alene Inn or the Coeur d’Alene Resort? As far as the breathalyzer…..that is old news. They tested kids for alcohol 10-15 years ago when my kids were in school. As a parent I don’t want anyone but ME deciding what is “appropriate” for MY child. Schools are not equipped/qualified to teach morality. They shouldn’t try.”

DFO: OTOH, some parents don’t have the common sense that God gave a turnip re: what’s appropriate or isn’t appropriate for children in a public setting, like a school or school dance. That’s why there are rules. I chaperoned several dances when my children were in school. I considered some of the behavior I saw way over the top then. I suspect the dress code isn’t draconian. If parents and their children don’t want to be told what to do re: appropriate attire for a school dance, they have the option of not attending. Thoughts?
