Study: More than 20 percent of undergraduate women say they were victims of sexual assault

A massive sexual assault study on college campuses was released Monday. The study surveyed more than 150,000 students from 27 universities.

The results are sobering.

According to the study , conducted by the Association of American Universities, 23 percent of undergraduate women and 5 percent of undergraduate men reported being sexually assaulted while attending university. That includes a variety of non-consensual sexual contact ranging from penetration to sexual touching – due to force or incapacitation.

Eleven percent of undergraduate women reported being victims of non-consensual penetration or attempted penetration.

No local universities were involved in the study. The closest was the University of Oregon where twenty-four percent of undergraduate women reported being victims of non-consensual sexual contact. Six percent of undergraduate men reported non-consensual sexual contact.

The survey was administered at the end of the 2015 spring semester. Read the full report here .
