Don’t destroy link to past
I just read about the building that was known as “Hagel’s House of Horrors.” This building is scheduled to be demolished because it does not fit into the airport’s “master plan.”
I can’t tell you how upset I am about this historical building that’s due to be demolished. This building was constructed in 1905 and was the Jamieson Frequency Changing Station. It was the substation for the electric trains that ran between Spokane and Medical Lake from 1905 to about 1922. This building is a part of history that can never be regained if it is torn down, and it’s about all that’s left to show this fascinating time in the history of Spokane’s electric trolley.
Even though it is not eligible to be on the national or state registry, because of too many changes made to it, it seems like it’s still an important building. Because of the remodel, it is in good condition and still looks like the original building from the outside.
The airport has destroyed so much of the area of the Hayford Community that used to exist and was a thriving area with a church and almost 100 homes and families. Now it’s zoned industrial and most of the houses were burned down or moved. Please do not destroy this part of history, too. Please reconsider tearing this building down, I beg of you.
