Trail closure is appalling

As someone who has worked with the city of Spokane to improve the Fish Lake Trail, I am appalled at the arrogance of state Reps. Joe Schmick and Mary Dye to think that closing a portion of an incredible state asset such as the John Wayne Trail is something that their constituents want, without even consulting them.

All recent opinion polls show that trails are one of the top priorities for recreational activity, and the public has supported using taxpayer money for their development and improvement. This misguided, and dangerous, legislation must be stopped.

Creation of a usable, cross-state trail would allow Washington to stand out as a tourist destination and would greatly benefit the communities along its course.
