Spokane River Cleanup continues with Upriver Scrub

RIVERS — Another annual stewardship event this weekend will tackle another stre tch of the Spokane River.

Some 600 volunteers removed more than 4 tons of junk from the gorge and university areas below and above downtown during the Sept. 19 Spokane River Cleanup .

The Upriver Scrub is set for Oct. 3 to collect and dispose of debris along the river upstream from Pines Road with 9:30 a.m. meetup locations at Centennial Trail access points at Harvard Road , at Barker Road as well as Mirabeau Park access.

The event has been quietly organized for years by the Northwest Whitewater Association, whose members provide rafts for hauling junk.  More volunteers are needed for shoreline pickup.
