FBI should keep quiet

I was amazed to read in The Spokesman-Review that the FBI now says that it may have a way to access the (San Bernardino) terrorist’s phone.

I cannot understand the reasoning of the FBI to release information like that. Now the terrorists will know to avoid using their encrypted cell phones.

Why couldn’t the FBI keep that information classified and just go ahead doing their business of investigating the information revealed in that phone and quietly arresting the terrorists involved? It looks to me that this situation is another case of us “shooting ourselves in the foot.”
