Trump wins dubious honor

It’s interesting to see letters to the editor that mention Hillary Clinton’s reputation for bending the truth. I wondered, are those repeated observations really true?

So I looked it up on PolitiFact, an independent Pulitzer Prize-winning website that evaluates political statements made by U.S. politicians. Clinton’s record as I looked at it seems typical and similar to others in the political scene, some shadings, some ambiguous statements, etc., but nothing egregious.

But whoa! Here’s a blockbuster I noted as I got further on the website: Donald Trump won the fact-checkers’ “The Biggest Liar of the Year” for 2015. And he won that award by a very large margin.

This is perhaps old news to many, but a revelation to me and quite a remarkable observation about someone who’s a major presidential contender.
