Increase sports options

I am Boy Scout working on my Citizenship in the Community and Communication merit badges. I have two questions; the first question I have has to do with swimming.

I swam for the Wave’s swim team for a little over three years but quit a couple months ago. One of the reasons I quit was because there is not a swim team at Mead High School. Anyway, my question is this: I was wondering why there are not very many high schools that have swim teams on the eastern side of Washington? My dad said swimming is a really big deal on the west side.

My other question is: Why doesn’t Washington have boys volleyball teams for middle and high schools? My older sister loved playing volleyball at Mead. I think I would love to play volleyball in high school, but I can’t because I am a boy and there aren’t any boys volleyball teams in high school.

I think that having more opportunities for students to be involved in high school sports would benefit the school, the students and the community. High school sports promote health, teamwork and a sense of belonging to the community. These are things you can’t learn in the classroom. By having more high school sports, it would give more individuals the opportunity to experience and learn these life lessons.
