Party of ‘No’

During most of my nearly 96 years, I was generally pleased with the government of the United States. However, my party of choice escalated their passion for money, lost compassion for people and moved away from me.

While promoting two unfinanced wars they became the party of “No.” They continued unsound fiscal policies and with obstinate refusal to do their job, nearly broke our government. Their lack of fruitful negotiation, the give and take that is always part of sensible American governance, has thrown Americans hostage to the interests of Big Money.

Now Mitch McConnell has taken the next step, an attempt to hold our Constitution hostage. The Constitution requires that President Obama appoint a new Supreme Court justice. McConnell refuses to allow the Senate to vet and vote.

When did the party of “No,” supposedly public servants, determine their power was strong enough to ignore words in the Constitution? When will it stop, or will it? Is it too late to return America to the people? Has lack of attention to informed voting brought forth an oligarchy? Are Americans now serfs in a new feudal society where corporations replace lords? Or is that the next step?
