Sheriff’s office is tops

We have a fantastic Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

Last week Anthony Garver, a fugitive from Western State Hospital, was reported to be in an area near where I live. Thursday afternoon my wife and I received a call from the sheriff’s office stating that a fugitive is in our area and to report any suspicious person to 911 immediately. We had been away that afternoon, and had we not received that call, we would not have known that anything was amiss. That evening we received another call stating that the fugitive was still on the loose.

Early Friday evening we received a call from the sheriff’s office asking us not to leave our house. Later that evening, we received the fourth call, this one a welcome one stating that Garver was captured. My wife and I very much appreciated receiving those calls.

Several weeks ago I was in the Davenport Hotel and happened to see Ozzie Knezovich walking up the stairs. I yelled out to him: “You’re doing a great job, Ozzie.” He turned around, smiled and walked down the stairs to shake my hand.

I meant what I said then, and my appreciation has increased since then. His deputies are no slouches either.
