Police officers underappreciated

The April 4 article “Kindness on duty,” pleasantly surprised me. It was refreshing to read a news story involving a police officer that was actually positive. We’ve been inundated with negative stories about law enforcement that don’t accurately reflect our police force.

Police officers are public servants who protect us, serve us, keep us safe and genuinely care. Most police officers join the force because they have a strong desire to help people. Going above and beyond what is required of them; police officers deserve our gratitude.

True, some may make mistakes or do wrong things, but it is much more common that officers do things that should receive commendation. For every bad tale we hear involving a police officer, getting the public all riled up, there are a thousand untold stories of officers committing acts of kindness and good deeds.

These unrecognized heroes carrying badges should be receiving praise from us for all they do right, not just attacks and disgust for occasional wrongdoing done by few. So thank you, police officers, for all the good things you do for us every day, and thank you, Spokesman-Review, for sharing Officer Pat Eismann’s story with us.
