What compelled latest raise?

I’d like to start by thanking all Spokane City Council members for their service. Their compensation, whether it’s for full- or part-time work, is hardly an issue with me. Besides, money is not the only “compensation” they get. I wish we could afford to financially reward them with $200k annually for their commitment.

Unless I’m missing something, what I find perplexing is the judgment of the Salary Review Commission. If, after their diligent analysis, they came up with a 4 percent increase in 2015, what new or otherwise unforeseen data did they discover to recommend another 44 percent roughly a year later?

The closest I can compare this huge swing to is “the weather.” Think of the snowpack between last year and this year.
