Increase Komen coverage
Can you believe it? Bloomsday is 40 years old and known around the world. And 100, or so, people have “run ‘em all.” I read all about this on the front page of my paper.
What about the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure? That event received a few short paragraphs and a small photo in Monday’s paper versus two front page articles about the Bloomsday anniversary.
The Race for the Cure attracted less than 10,000 participants, so is not in the same league as Bloomsday. But it’s the 11th year our community has run specifically to help find a cure for breast cancer. It’s also an opportunity to recognize survivors of this disease and a time to remember those that didn’t survive.
Bloomsday shirts are great and finishers should be proud. But I’ll save my congratulations for the couple hundred strong, local women who have struggled through treatment, and hope that they’ll still be here to walk next year.
