Bonner County undersheriff resigns amid website scandal

Here’s a news item from the Associated Press: SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — Bonner County Undersheriff David Hale has resigned after admitting he set up a phony website for Sheriff Daryl Wheleer’s rival in the May Republican primary. The Bonner County Daily Bee reports ( http://bit.ly/1MRMhHh ) Wheeler issued a news release Thursday saying he had accepted Hale’s resignation, but didn’t mention why he was stepping down. The announcement comes a week after an unofficial website was set up for Terry Ford, who is challenging Wheeler for the Republican nomination for sheriff. The website was traced back to computer servers operated by Hale. Ford’s campaign has said the site, which features a blurry photo of him at a speaking event, was designed to make him look inexperienced. The Idaho Attorney General’s Office, Idaho State Police and Bonner County Prosecutor Louis Marshall are investigating the incident.
