Ballot a waste for Democrats
As one of the seemingly half-dozen Washington State Democrats living east of our mountains, I note in the state’s voter’s pamphlet how to use the upcoming presidential primary mail-in ballot. It reads that if I wish to vote for a Democrat, I must first declare myself a Democrat on the ballot before I vote. OK, so far.
Then it states that my vote will be discarded by those in attendance at our state’s Democratic caucus and the will of such caucus will prevail, resulting in a total waste of my time and all other Democrats voting by mail. This seems to be a fact of my primary’s life.
So I’m registering as a Republican and will vote for their least offensive candidate, as the general election doesn’t care about my primary party declaration. The result will be a less-than-honest picture of the Republican Party’s primary choice, but that’s politics, I guess.
