Gutierrez’s experience matters
Idaho’s primary election might seem to some an anticlimax but for all of Idaho, one contested election is of utmost importance. We’ll be choosing a new Idaho Supreme Court Justice for Justice Jim Jones’ seat. He chose not to run.
Four have filed for this position but one is the most worthy to take Justice Jones’ seat: Court of Appeals Judge Sergio Gutierrez. “Judge G,” as he is fondly known, brings a wealth of experience in life and on the bench. He is one of 13 children, born into poverty and dysfunction, an immigrant, a former field worker who has known hunger and homelessness, as well as a graduate of Job Corps who learned a construction trade and respect in the bargain.
Through scholarships and help, he went to college and then law school. From law school, he returned to Idaho, worked as a lawyer, was appointed to the District Court bench by Gov. Andrus in 1993 and later to the Court of Appeals by Gov. Kempthorne.
Judge G has a record of independence, integrity and achievement. He brings people together to resolve problems and understands the needs of all of Idaho. Experience matters. Elect Judge G on May 17.
