Man thrown from Canyon County carnival ride

With fair season upon us, this news item from the Canyon County fair has to go in the don’t-be-stupid file, or perhaps the how-not-to-be-a-role-model-for-your-kids file: A 50-year-old man was thrown from a carnival ride at the Canyon County Fair and hospitalized, after he stood up on a ride called the “Octopus,” on which riders are required to stay seated.

Here’s the AP/Idaho Press-Tribune report: CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — Officials say a man has been injured after he was thrown from a carnival ride at the Canyon County Fair. County spokesman Joe Decker tells The Idaho Press-Tribune (http://bit.ly/2aHvLfe) that witnesses reported the incident happened Friday night when the 50-year-old man stood up on a ride known as the “Octopus.” He says occupants on the ride are required to stay seated. The man, who has not been identified, was taken to a Boise hospital. An update on his condition has not been released. Brown’s Amusement, which runs the carnival, states on its website that it inspects the rides daily. The company did not respond to a request for comment Monday.
