Bond: Call me “Mr.”

On Facebook, old SR buddy David Bond rants:

“Why do computers I’ve never met address me by my first name? Am I so bloody old that Mr… would not suffice until we had at least shaken hands? “Dear David, we are about to cut your power off” just flat sucks. Yes, there’s that old joke about, “I made love with him but we’re not on a last-name basis yet.” Barf. Another favourite is, when answering the phone, the computerised caller asks who I am, or Is this David? If you did not already know, why ask? Address me properly or piss off. India, please advise your Silicon Valley clients of modest etiquette.”

Question: Does it bother you when strangers call you by your first name?
