Thirty-seven years ago today, my wife delivered our son after a long night of labor at Kalispell Regional Hospital in Kalispell, Mont. I was the editor of the Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell, Mont., at the time. I worked the Saturday shift on the day before Junior’s birth, putting out the Sunday edition. I had almost cleared the front page around 11 p.m. that Saturday when Mrs. O called and said, “I want you home — NOW!” The paper got out and so did Junior, eight hours later. Now, he’s a surgeon. And a tremendous man. He and his sister, Amy Dearest, are my magnum opus. If you produce good kids, you won life’s greatest battle. Happy birthday, Junior. Here’s your Wild Card …
