Abortion protest triggers outcry

The Sandpoint City Council narrowly voted to amend a city ordinance banning “aggressive solicitation or hand billing” after public outcry over abortion protesters at a local farmer’s market. “I have never experienced anything like this, and frankly I’m completely disgusted by what is happening in our little town,” said resident Andrea Nye during the public forum portion of the meeting. “They are maliciously and willfully disturbing our peace…in the presence of our children.” Many Sandpoint residents have complained about the large posters the Abolish Human Abortion group brings to the market, as well as their use of microphones.
