$7.6M: The value of Ironman CDA

Deputy City Administrator Sam Taylor responds to several comments about the upcoming Ironman CDA:

“I appreciate all of the diverse opinion about this event. From an economic development standpoint, it does appear to be a large boon to our area. Estimates are that it provides $7.6 million in direct tourism benefit. That’s a huge figure that helps support our local small businesses and many employees of those businesses. So if folks wonder why they should volunteer related to the event, they might think of it as a way to support their local business community. When those small businesses thrive, we all do, and your community government can better afford to provide important public services like police and fire protection, street paving, parks mananagement and maintenance and more.”
