Trump accusations dangerous

Donald Trump has repeatedly said that Hillary Clinton wants to abolish the Second Amendment. This would require a new constitutional amendment. The president has no role in this process. Only the 18th Amendment establishing prohibition was annulled by passing the 21st Amendment.

Given the history of the Second Amendment, including the 2008 U.S. Supreme Court ruling (Heller), plus the politics surrounding it, only a total moron would propose abolishing it.

This accusation by Trump is dangerously ridiculous. It is designed to get headlines and inflame his followers who don’t understand basic civics. Our founders made it extremely hard to amend the Constitution. There are only 27 amendments, including the original 10, the Bill of Rights.

It took a civil war to abolish slavery with the 13th Amendment. Is it a civil war that Trump envisions or wants? Meanwhile, he suggests that Second Amendment people get ready to do something horrible if Clinton gets elected.

During my lifetime JFK was assassinated. Ronald Reagan was almost killed. Gerald Ford twice escaped being shot. These are not trivial matters.
