School fees ruling relieves parents

Classroom fees in public schools have often posed problems for families across the state and the nation. Now, those families may find a little financial relief.

School districts across Idaho are tossing class fees and shortening school supply lists in response to a November district court ruling that class fees are unconstitutional.

The court case, filed by Russell Joki against the West Ada School District in Meridian, was about the unconstitutionality of fees charged by Idaho school districts. The court ruling stated classroom fees violate the state constitution which requires Idaho to “…establish and maintain a general, uniform and thorough system of public, free common schools”/ Bethany Blitz , Coeur d’Alene Press.
