It’s common courtesy

Political correctness is not political, it is common courtesy. Courtesy and kindness to others requires that we not call others names that are denigrating or that they don’t like. If your name is Josephine but you prefer I call you Jo, then that is the name I will use, not because of politics but because I care about you and I respect your choices.

Lately public figures of all political stripes have bragged about how they refuse to be “politically correct.” To demonstrate their lack of political correctness, they call individuals and groups names that are demeaning, disrespectful and hurtful.

Every human person is entitled to respect and courtesy. A society that cares about every member treats each person as we would like to be treated. Let us resolve to be a courteous, kind society.
