Property tax payment hits snag

More often than not I’m on top of things (esp. after my second cup of coffee in the morning). But occasionally I go all Absent-Minded Professor. Such was the case when I wrote out my check to cover the first half of my 2016-17 property taxes. The names, dates and numbers were in the right place. The amount was correct. In fact, there was nothing wrong with the check. It was the blank check that I didn’t notice that I’d also torn off that became the problem. I sent both to the Kootenai County Treasurer’s Office. Where I was protected by my local government guardian angel. The rest of you know her as Chief Deputy Treasurer Laurie Thomas. Laurie called to point out the problem. And chuckle somewhat. I told her that I appreciated that she had my back. And she responded by saying that she’d do the same for any of the property tax payers in the county. I’m sure she would. But I prefer to think of her as my personal courthouse angel.
