Freeze out round worms

I stepped in a dog pile recently at the park. Even with my headlamp, those piles left by irresponsible owners seem to look like leaves in the predawn darkness. In spite of my vigilance as a veterinarian, my dog recently developed a whopping infestation of round worms, and I suspect those piles as the source.

Like the fleas that have enjoyed two mild winters and seem to be well established in every stray cat for easy transport into unsuspecting pet-owner yards, I wonder if round worm eggs also have enjoyed longer survival. I say, bring on the cold snowy winters. I just wish there would be a bit more light so I could see where I was stepping.
