KCSD: Don’t blow/plow or shovel show onto roads
In a news release, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department issues this reminder:
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public to be conscientious when removing snow from their driveways and walk ways.
With the snow finally arriving this season, we’d like to remind the public to be conscientious about where they plow, shovel and blow the snow from their driveways. Often times, people remove snow from their property onto roadways and sidewalks without consideration to others. This can create hazardous situations for both pedestrians and motorist.
In addition to being hazardous, Idaho Code 18-3906 states; It shall constitute a misdemeanor crime for any person to willfully throw, deposit, or place, or to lose and willfully leave upon or along side of any highway or street used by the public for travel any debris, substance, object or material that impedes traffic or creates a hazardous driving condition and is punishable by a fine not to exceed $2500.
If you live within city limits, we ask that you check with your local code enforcement departments regarding specific city ordinances that pertain to home owner’s and business’ responsibilities to keep sidewalks clear of ice and snow.
Please be considerate where you plow, shovel, and blow your snow this season. Do not deposit it in the road or onto your neighbor’s property, without their permission. Let’s all have a safe and happy holiday season.
