Reject white nationalism

White nationalism, aka the alt-right movement, is abhorrent, just as it was during the 1920s and 1930s when it was promoted by Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Indeed, it is even more abhorrent today, because we now know that it was a precursor to the mass murder of more than 6 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and others in a Holocaust that staggers human understanding.

Why? Because many white, European, Christian people decided they were superior to those who differed in skin color, religious beliefs, or sexual or ethnic preferences. The Trump campaign has again reignited such destructive attitudes in our society, and we have seen a wave of aggressive acts of hatred against immigrants, blacks, Muslims, LGBT persons and others who are perceived to be “different” and therefore inferior.

We are on a dark, ugly, destructive slope, and if we do not firmly reject white nationalism, I fear we will again see far too many of us engaging in and/or tacitly approving acts of terrorism, bullying and even murder of those we perceive to be inferior. Stephen Bannon should legislatively be barred from being a policy adviser to Donald Trump.
