Myths surround Benghazi

Dave Nagle’s Jan. 30 letter praising the movie “13 Hours,” which he describes as fact-based, shows the popular mythology surrounding the Benghazi tragedy.

First, the two mercenaries killed at Benghazi were ex-SEALS; they preferred the higher pay as military contractors. According to the Washington Post (May 16, 2013), “a majority of the personnel working there were CIA, not State.” The CIA was using the Department of State compound as a cover.

I quite agree that we shouldn’t be rewriting the Constitution with our current crop of politicians. But where was Nagle when the Patriot Act took away our Fourth Amendment rights?

It seems that many conservatives saw nothing wrong in the Senate giving away its sole right to declare war, the House of Representatives its power of the purse, the U.S. Supreme Court arrogating the right to decide elections, and the erosion of all of the Bill of Rights when President George W. Bush was in power but now are suffering the consequences during the Obama administration.

Aristotle wrote, “When there is no good choice, choose the lesser evil.” So, vote on a damage-limitation strategy.
